"Project Encountered a Problem and Needs to Close"

We have an active project that when attemping to open, crashes the MS Project
application and displays the above error message. Research of that error
message only revealed a condition that is not applicable (project name
contains a certain string of characters). I've tried renaming the project
using the renamer utility - but no luck. Any other reasons why we might be
getting this error and how to fix it?

Randy:

It generally indicates corruption in the binary record of the project. Do
you have a backup to revert to? If you're using 2003, you could try a direct
ODBC connection to the database and try opening it that way. If you can get
it open, you might be able to save it.

Thanks Gary - file this under "can't explain it but..." Seems to have
fixed itself. I'd like to take the credit for it - but I can't.

By the way... Are you presenting any sessions at the Project Conference in
October?

Thanks for the feedback though!

Yes, I'll be doing a session on Managing Oganizational Change around an EPM
