Project Flashes and Calculates

From the Gannt view, I tried to remove the formula from Number11, the project
started flashing and the calculate message shows on the message bar. The
project is set to automatically calculate. I am using MS Project 2000 to open
the MS Project 2003 file. Has anyone seen this before and how to solve it?

What do you mean by "remove the formula" in the Gantt view? Are you trying
to change the way the Number 11 field is calculated, are you trying to
clear the values displayed for some of the tasks but not all of them or are
you trying to remove the Number 11 column from the Gantt chart table all
together?

I clicked customize field, and set the formula to "none", roll up to "none"
and click ok. then the project kept flickering.

Sounds like something else might have used that field in its calcalation.
