Project freezes when opening .mpp files

I last updated several project files in early August. Last week I attempted
to open these to update. Project 2003 would freeze and would require forced
closure. The system is an HP0300z, 4GB, 4core AMD processor, Vista Home
Premium 64.

I loaded Project 2003 on my laptop and could open all of the files. The
prime difference is that the laptop is a Vista 32.

Thinking that it might be an issue with the older Project I downloaded a
trial copy of 2007. Same experience.

I had removed and replaced Project 2003 several times, not updating it,
updating it incrementally . . . and similar tactics. Nothing keep it from
freezing. It even freezes when I create a simple file, save it and try to
open it. (ditto for 2007)

Any advice?

Thanks!

Hello jblair,

Are you running Norton antivirus? There are several posts from
early October with reports of crashing project files, inability to
open project files, etc. The answer for all seemed to be to disable
the Norton Office plug-in.

Search this newsgroup for Office plug-in.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Ah Ha!

NAV is our first line of defense. I will fiddle with it to see if I can
make the issue go away. NAV is also on the laptop but I have a bit more
complex configuration on the desktop.

Thank you!

You're welcome. I think the problem with NAV was fairly recent and
may be due to a NAV update. Try turning off the Office Plug-in --
no need to stop NAV completely.

Good luck.

I'm trying right now to get on the Norton Chat Help. Huge queue. I'll see
if they are any help before I turn off the Office plug in.

Thanks!
