Project Gallery Crashes Excel and Powerpoint but works fine in Word

here's a strange on:

If I launch the Project Gallery from the File menu in Excel or PowerPoint,
it will cause Excel (or PowerPoint) to crash. It continues to work fine
from Word, however. In fact, if I have Word, Excel, and PowerPoint all
running, and I start the project gallery from within Word it works fine.
But if I try to start it from either Excel or PowerPoint it will crash either
Excel or PowerPoint.

I did a slew of troubleshooting (fonts etc) permissions correction,
preferences trashing, still no luck. Happens for all user accounts on
this machine.

Any thoughts?

Mac OS X 10.2.6, Office 10.1.3

As to the real "cure", it seems this problem could be related to the

presence of a "DivX® 5.component" in the QuickTime folder in the Library:
dragging this file out of the folder should stop the problem.

Also, DiVX 5.0.7, released today, does not apparently conflict with
Excel and PowerPoint Project galleries.
