Project indicator line (progress??)

Hope someone can help,
I am trying to add a line ( similar to a status date line -Vertical) that
identifies a projected critical date.
i.e if i have a task that is due to finish 30 days from the start -so if it
started today 3rd of Oct it should finsh 1 Nov. I want to know where the 80%
date is from the 3rd and, show that as a vertical line down the project plan.
or is there a better way??

regards

andy

Andy,

I'm not sure that it's right what you need, but try the following:
Display the Drawing toolbar. Use the Line button to draw a vertical line.
Select this line
Format / Drawing / Properties / Size and Position
You can set the position on the timescale or Attach to task with an
horizontal offset.
But this offset will not change if the task duration changes...
Hope this helps,

Hi gerard,

if there is another way of achieving this style of measure I am more than
open to ideas as i have not used this using project before?

Andy,

You could try using a milestone as a successor task with a 20% lead. This
would provide the date and it would remain dynamic.

Darrell, i thought it could be something like that.. being new to project -
how do you apply a % calcualtion ( i know how to do it in my head) but havent
a clue how to apply a formula in project - any help would be grateful

Create a milestone and link from the main task to the milestone with an
SS link. Double click the link and type 66% in the lag box.

Step1. Calculate the Critical Date (at 80% of the duration) in othar
date field, this could be Start10.
Access the dialog window for Custom Fields in Tools > Customize
Fields...
Use this formula:
ProjDateAdd([Start],([Duration]*0.8),[Project
Calendar])

Step 2. Insert a new row in Bar Styles to draw a mark in that date
Find in Format > Bar Styles...
The result will be a automated graphical sign for all task, you
can custumize in your own style.

Hope this will help you.
