Project-Level Backup/Restore?

I'm a new admin of MS Project Server for my organization. The tool
hasn't been used to it's full potential; everyone's just learning what
it can do. The issue of backup arose, and mgmt. asked if there's a way
to restore a particular project if it becomes corrupted or deleted.
Are there any native or third-party tools that provide this
functionality?

Sounds like an opportunity for a new third party tool! Feeling ambitious?

No, you generally cannot select specific data to restore from a typical SQL server backup. You simply restore the backup from the point in time that it was made. If the plan you lost happens to be in there you're in luck!

One thing you could do (if management is really paranoid) is to save individual projects as local files. Then if a project needed to be restored individually you could import it to the project server from the file.

Note: This is not by any means a recommended best practice! This idea is fraught with as many, if not more, problems as restoring from backups of the SQL database.
