Project Locked - Project is Unviewable Word 2000

Hi,

I am trying to work on a template that I created and am
not able to work on the code. I get an error message:
Project is Unviewable. I have not locked the project.

I've gotten the message in the past and was able to
restart Word and continue. I just rebooted my machine and
am still getting the message.

How do I work around this?

Thanks.

remove it from the Startup folder of word. Move it elsewhere like Desktop to
work the coding. When it's locked, it's loaded by word from that location..
give that a shot.

ps - to easily find it, set your Folder Options to "Show all Hidden/System
files", then do a Start->Search-> Files named.. whatever your template/add
in is named, and set advanced options to "Search Sub folders", and "Search
Hidden folders/System folders."

Are you trying to open it in a different version of Word from the one
you saved it in? Did you add a digital signature to it when you saved
it?

Hi,

The template is not in my startup folder. There are no
files in my startup folder.

The file was created by another user in Word 2000...the
same version as mine.

My other templates seem to be working fine.

Thanks again.

Open up the dir where your templates are stored.
Doulbe click that template, and it should allow you access to it.

If not, is it password protected? If not, then I myself am out of answers..

Khai,

Thanks for your suggestions. Double clicking on the
template using Windows Explorer did the same thing. BTW,
the template is not password protected.

Thanks again.

Hi jbc and Khai,

Double-clicking any template in Explorer should launch a
new document based on it, *NOT* open the template itself.
To open a template from Explorer you generally would
select it and click File-> Open, -or- RIGHT-click it and
choose Open from the pop-up menu. This could still cause
problems if the file is being loaded at startup (see below).

(I've never seen a "Project is Unviewable" message emit
from Explorer, so if you really did get that message,
something very weird is going on. (I suppose it's
theoretically possible if the template's AutoNew or
AutoOpen code tries to open a locked file in the VBE,
but let's not even go there....)

Click Tools> Templates & Add-Ins. Is the template in
the list you see there? If so, it *is* being loaded at
startup, perhaps via a shortcut, meaning it could be
anywhere, not necessarily the Word Startup folder. It
could also be in the *Office* Startup folder, which is
a different place, but I can't imagine you would have
placed it there deliberately. (Just in case, check in
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Startup). In
any case, if you see it in the add-ins list, uncheck it
and you should be able to view it.

Does any of this help?

Mark,

I launched the template from Explorer and still got the
Project is Unviewable. There is nothing on startup or
loaded as an Add-In.

The template is a form. It has form fields in it and vba
code. The document was created by somebody else and I put
in the form fields and coding. Most of it was copied from
another template and I modified it for this specific
form. I saved it as a template. I have about 40 other
templates that are working fine. I have gotten this
message before, but when I rebooted or exited out of word,
I was able to work on the template. For some reason, this
template isn't allowing me to work on it at all.

Hope the additional info helps.

Thanks.

Mark,

I went back to the original document before I saved it as
a template. I am able to access the code. Is this wierd
or what?

Very!

Now that you can see the code, is there an AutoExec or
AutoOpen macro in it containing anything ridiculous?

What happens if you save this as a template *without*
making any of the changes you made before? (If it's
happy, then something was amiss with those edits.)

Also, if this file has been modified tons of times
and/or is very large, it may have what's informally
called "template bloat" and you'd want to run the
Word code cleaner on it. Strange things can happen
when the junk that accumulates from heavy editing
reaches critical mass. The code cleaner is at
