Dear Microsoft Project Users,
We're listening! Due to extensive feedback, we have created a new set
of newsgroups dedicated exclusively to Microsoft Project. Here are the
NGs you should be using for Microsoft Project posts:
microsoft.public.project - Miscellaneous Microsoft Project concerns
including project management discussion and posts previously posted to
microsoft.public.project2000, microsoft.public.project2000.projectcentral,
and microsoft.public.project.standard_and_server.
microsoft.public.project.server - Microsoft Project Server concerns
including posts previously posted to microsoft.public.project.pro_and_server
and microsoft.public.project.standard_and_server.
microsoft.public.project.developer - Microsoft Project Developer concerns
including posts previously posted to microsoft.public.project.vba.
We understand that moving to another newsgroup can be an inconvenience, but
we ask you to bear with us as we streamline our newsgroup offerings. Our
goal is to provide you with the best possible user experience.

Hi Stretch,

Please see FAQ Item: 24. Project Newsgroups. FAQs, companion products and
other useful Project information can be seen at this web address:
http://www.mvps.org/project/. You post to these newsgroups by setting up
accounts in your news reader in the same way as you have posted here.

Why can't I see the NGs you are refering to? Is it the
fault of my NewsServer that I am connected to? I only see

microsoft.pulic.fr.project
microsoft.pulic.project
microsoft.pulic.project.vba
microsoft.pulic.project2000
microsoft.pulic.project2000.beta
microsoft.pulic.project2000.projectcentral

I do not see
microsoft.public.project.server, or
microsoft.public.project.developer!!!

The .server and .developer newsgroups are very recent additions. You can
either point your newsreader to msnews.microsoft.com or ask your ISP to add
these groups to the ones it already supports.

John,

I am new to the newsgroup arena Microsoft is pushing us
towards. So, here comes a dumb question.

1. What is a newss reader?

2. How do I post a question on the new newsgroups? I
went to a couple of the urls provided below and could read
some of the postings. However, I did not see how to post
a question.

Thanks in advance for the help,

Stretch

When you send an email, it doesn't go directly to the recipient. The
message goes to a machine called a mail server (we won't worry about how it
knows which machine -- that's way beyond the scope of this message)
where it is stored until the person starts up an email program to download
the messages from that machine to the person's personal machine. People
using Windows often use Outlook or Outlook Express. (There are a whole
bunch of other programs that do this, too.)

When you work with a newsgroup, it's a variation on the concept. Instead of
sending your message to a person you send it to a newsgroup. The message
goes to several thousand machines called news servers. When you connect to
a newsserver using a program you get to see messages for the newsgroups you
have selected. People using Windows often use Outlook or Outlook Express
becuase it handled both email and newsgroups.

There are tens of thousands of newsgroups and not all news servers save
messages for all the newsgroups. Based on your original question, the
newsserver you are connecting to does not have all the newsgroups you want.
You'll have to find one that does. (The discussion of how to find and add
newsgroups is a discussion that is better suited to a newsgroup other than
the Project ones.)

Finally, you post a message to a newsgroup just as you posted your message
that I'm replying to.
