Project not allocating full work day to resources

Hi,
I know I'm doing something wrong here. Let me explain my situation. I have set my calendar up to reflect a 6.5hr work day.
I have multiple tasks assigned to a particular resource that start on the same day but have differing durations. One task is 20h of effort, the other task is 60h of effort. I would like for the resource to work for 3 hours/day on the 60hr task and 3.5 hours/day on the 20hr task until the tasks are complete but project insists on scheduling the 20 hr task to 7.5hr/day. when I try to manually allocate the tasks and arrange them the way I want. I get one of the tasks highlighted in red indicating that the units assigned are over 100%.

Why is project allocating 7.5h/day when my workday is only 6.5? what am I doing wrong and why won't it let me manually allocate the tasks to fit the 6.5h workday?

Please help, I'm at my wits end.

Hi,

You need to set the calendar to 6.5h per day and the hours per day under
Tools, Options to 6.5h per day. See the FAQ at:
www.mvps.org/project for more info.

Hello,
3h a day when a day = 6,5h means an allocation of 46%
3,5 h a day when a day = 6,5h means an allocation of 53,8%

Insert the Work column in the Table Entry : Insert / Column...Work
- Enter 60h for the first task in the Work column
- Enter 20h for the second one

Check that your tasks are not set to "Fixed Duration" !
Select the first task : in the Assign Resource dialog box, in front of the
resource name, enter 46% in the Units cell
Select the 2ndtask : in the Assign Resource dialog box, in front of the
resource name, enter 53,8% in the Units cell
NB : Ms Project will round to 54%

Hope this helps,
