Project Portfolio Server (32-bit) & SQL2005 (64-bit) Installation

In order to set-up the Reporting Tier of Project Portfolio Server, we need to
install the PPS (msi) on the SQL reporting server. Our PPS Application
Server is 32-bit and the SQL server is 64-bit, so we can not install the PPS
(msi) due to the 32 vs. 64 bit compatibility issue.

Here are my questions:
Is there a 64-bit PPS component that can be used for the SQL installation?
Can Portfolio Server (32-bit) be used with SQL2005 (64-bit)?
What is the recommended work-around for this problem?

Thanks in advance.

PPS needs to be installed on a 32bit OS, however it is fully supported by
64bit SQL/Reporting Services.

If you want to make use of the same hardware that you're running Reporting
Services on, then you install PPS in a virtual server on the same box
(providing there is sufficient resource available)

I am not familiar with the use of virtual servers, so here are some more
questions:
For the reporting tier, how is the connection then made between PPS and SSRS?
Why is PPS even installed on the reporting server?

Essentially, we would like to leverage our existing SQL Enterprise (64bit)
environment.
