Project Pro 2002 software compatability with Server 2003

We are finalizing the decision to upgrade our server licenses to 2003. In a
post several weeks ago, I was advised that it is possible to use Project
Professional 2002 software with Project Server 2003. This would result in
limited functionality of the server, based on the 2002 Project Pro
capabilities.

We are a smaller department and are not currently utilizing the full
capabilities of Project. What we do need is a way for remote locations to
pull up a project from PWA and print it in its entirety. We're primarily
interested in utilizing the email notification system, updating and status
reporting, and viewing and printing timelines. The 2002 server we are
currently using does all of this, except print out timelines (I understand
the it is not possible to print gantt charts). It would be worth the cost of
the server update to have this aility. providing we retain the full
functionality we are currently utilizing with Server 2002.

I appreciate any advice you have to offer.

If you wish to use Microsoft Project Professional 2002 with Project Server
2003, your Project Server administrator would need to do the following after
upgrading to Project Server 2003:

1. Log into PWA with administrator permissions
2. Click Admin - Manage users and groups
3. Click the Groups link in the sidepane
4. Select the Project Managers group and click the Modify Group button
5. In the Global Permissions grid, set the "Connect to Project Server using
Microsoft Project 2002" permission to Allow
6. Click the Save Changes button

As long as you realize that using Microsoft Project 2002 with Project Server
2003 results in reduced functionality, you are at least going ahead with
your eyes open. Hope this helps.

Thanks Dale! There may come a time in the not too distant future when we
will need all the functionality of 2003 server, and will upgrade our Project
Pro to 2003.

For now, your input has been very much appreciated.
