Project Pro 2003 - Sub-project Link not Working

T

Tim Mccoy

I have a master schedule with about 23 sub-projects linked to it. All
projects (and the master resource pool) are located in the same folder on a
network drive. I can open the master schedule and all sub-projects
successfully and verified the sub-projects are all being linked from the
correct location, which is the network drive.

Another user opens the same master schedule and some of the sub-project
links work (pull from the network drive) and others do not work. The master
schedule is trying to pull some of the sub-projects from an invalid link
which is an older link on a c: drive.

I do not understand why this one user is getting different results. Maybe
there is a cache, which I do not understand, the master schedule is pulling
the links from.

Can somebody please advise on a resolution?

Thank you!

Welcome to links between files :)
This gets tricky. For the invalid links, you may be able to find a user id
or other identifier information in the link. You said it came from a "C"
drive which implies to me C:\Documents and Settings\USER NAME\Folder.... etc.

Is the user accessing the network file from a shortcut? The shortcut may
point to an older version the master file.

THere is no cache here.

One other test you can try. COPY/PASTE the entire network folder onto the
user's desktop. Try opening it from there and inspect for differences.
Before you do that, I am sure you have already verified the validity of the
network version, right?

Keep up the good work! It sounds like you are approaching the issue smartly!
