Project Pro 2003 won't connect

TroyS

A few days ago this was working and now it is not.
When i test the connection in the Project Server Account setup i can
successfully connect to project server.
When i try logging on using Project Pro 2003, i get the following error:

Cannot Connect.
Project was unable to establish a connection with the selected Project
Server. This could be caused by a loss of network connectivity or problems
with the Project Server or database.

Not sure that i've seen where the Test Connection works fine yet i cannot
connect thru Project pro 2003. Are they steps for troubleshooting? I've
verified that all services are running. This is a 2 Server Configuration
(Database + ProjectServer).
The database is up and running. I can connect to the ProjectServer database
with Query Analyzer.
The EditSite Utility Test shows pass on all checks.
I'm not seeing anything in the HealthMonitor utility when i try connecting
I'm not seeing anything in particular from the Tracing Utility similar to
the info below:

Any ideas on what to further troubleshoot? thx.

I assume this is a new install and there are no users on it yet? Please
specify this
in your posts so people know what the status is. Mainly, if this was a
working
server and all of a sudden all users, one user, or some users experienced
problems will come up with different answers for you.

Since I don't know that, I'll guess... Did you change any thing in the
Group/Category
of the user that would have taken rights away from the user? Can you as
the administrator use MS Project to get onto the server with that project?
If yes, then it's just a rights issue for the other user. Check to nake
sure the
person has "Open Project" and "Update Task", etc. permissions.

If this didn't help, please repost this on the forum with more details
as mentioned above and someone else will answer the question
for you (since once someone answers a question, no one else will
post to it in most cases)

Thanks.

M

msnews.microsoft.com

Everyone else using Project Pro 2003 can access it just fine. The windows
login i'm using is Admin in PWA. I can access PWA fine.

It's just that in a temporary situation where i'm working remotely, the
client stuck Project Pro 2003 out on the front end server of projectserver
so that i could remote in and use it. It's not ideal, it's just temporary.

Project Pro 2003 connected successfully one day and the next it did not. Not
sure what, if anything, was done and they are not forthcoming. So i'm trying
to troubleshoot this on my own since i have work to get done.

I've tried the Run -> cliconfg ....just to check settings and those seem
fine.
I've tried OSQL to try connecting to the database where project server is
located. I'm logged under the proper windows userid where i can use Project
Pro 2003. The windows userid is in PWA as a valid user and with the proper
rights (ie Admin). I can log in to PWA just fine.

If i try OSQL using osql /Sservername /Uusername /Ppassword /DProjectServer,
i cannot connect.
If i connect using the 'trusted' option in osql -- osql /Sservername
/E<trusted> /DProjectServer -- i can successfully connect and perform a
select on ProjectServer tables.

The login id is in the local admin group on the database server (where
projectserver is located) and on the box i'm logging into to access Project
Pro 2003.

Just trying to figure out what possible issue may be blocking me from using
Project Pro 2003 and am looking for hints on what to test. Since this is a
client, their support people are ignoring my requests for help ....so i
don't have much insight to how their network is set up and how it operates,
but I'll take any hints that i can find.
