Project Pro Client outside of firewall

Tareef A.

Hello All,

I am new to project server and wanted to configure MS Project to work
outside of our firewall. But reading many of these post, it seems that is not
possible. Correct?

Is the only way to access Project server outside of the firewall via the web
client?

Thanks,
Tareef

Using MS Project from outside firewall is possible, but that will open up too
many ports on your firewall. You will get your functionality but will loose
security.

Better use Remote Desktop Connection / Terminal service from outisde to
logon to server, then use MS Project from the server. Thats easier & quick to
implement. You can use other remote administration utilities as well.

Hi Tareef,

As Faisal has already said it is possible, but opening port 1433
(Microsoft SQL) on the firewall will get your SQL Server hacked in
seconds.

I have actually seen this in a controlled test on a Live IP SQL Server
and it was amazing. We installed SQL on a server and it was infected
with Slammer within 2 seconds after the SQL Service started. Truly
Amazing.

Chances are if you could gain access to the firewall rules, you wouldn't
want to. But it makes for a neat test :)

Cheers,
