Project Pro Perfomance Issues

Guys,
We have a client, who has just migrated their Project Server 2007 from older
32 bit servers to four Kick-Ass 64bit servers (2 web front ends, 1
application server & 1 SQL 2005 server). However there is no noticable
performance increase.

It still takes over 1 minute to save or publish a project from Project Pro.
Is this normal?
Are there any options that could be changed to improve this, i.e. increase
the number of threads on the Project Server Queue.
Or is it the PSI just slowing everything down.

Any comments would be warmly welcome.

Hi there,

are there any errors that you are getting in the ULS logs when you are
publishing a Project?

I am assuming that all users a windows users?

Unfortunatly Project Server & all of it's logs do not show any issues. Based
on the information they contain a save takes the Queue around 2 seconds and a
Publish around 20 seconds.

I have read somewhere that the Publish and save times shown in project pro
are based on the 'average' times. Maybe if there was a way to reset these
then they would start to be re-calculated with the timings from the new
server.

Thanks

Andrew:

I'm not sure that you'll get as much of a speed boost from the new
configuration as you will a capacity boost. The processes that affect save
and publish times, like data serialization, don't seem to be impressed with
faster processors after a point. Often the client machines and network
conditions are the limiting factors, and sometimes the way that SQL handles
the data or the programs handle SQL is the limiting factor. You very rarely
see Project Servers maxing out their available SQL resources. Even if and as
the product team learns how to better optimize the data streams, the
underlying fact is that even minor changes to a decent size schedule can
cause a boat load of data changes and this will continue to be a challenge.

G'Day Gary,

Thanks for your reply and it confirmed what we suspected. Do you know if a
PM would normally expect to wait over 1 minute during a publish event?

Gary,
I don't believe that is the case as they say it is slow on a very simple
Project (3 tasks). However I am going out to visit the Client later this week
to see the issue first hand.

Thanks
