Project Professional doesn't connect to Project Server (for Gary)

Iggy

Hello.

A question for Gary.

I have just installed Project Server and....

is there maybe a cause 3 or 4 for Project Proffesional 2003 not connecting
to Project Server 2003. (reffering to your book Implementing Enterprise
Portfolio Management with Microsoft Project Server 2002)

I've tried fixing the problem with the first two suggestions, but it is stil
not working. I have network connectivity, valid username & password.

Thanx.

Iggy:

An entirely new raft of issues affect 2003 including, but not limited to:

Browser Addins
Virus Scanning software
Firewall settings in XP
Browser security settings

The list goes on....

Take a moment to describe the behavior you're seeing.

I

Iggy

Well,

I've taken 3 screen snap shots, which describe the status of add-ons.
I'm using NOD 32 Virus scanning software.
Firewall in XP is enabled. (have temporarelly disabled it, but it still
didn't work)
Browser security settings are set to medium default.

Are those problems described in recent books you've written about managing
and administering project server 2003.
I allready have the 2002 version. I'm only days from my college graduation
from management & IT and I'm not loaded with cash. But I'm determined to
master Project Server 2003.

Should I buy them both? I probably will do it anyway..., and then I'll
starve for a month :)))))

Iggy:

I think our books are better at helping you avoid this type of problem than
they are at helping you troubleshoot them. If your intention is to master
Project Server, you can't go wrong.<g>

How about describing the symptoms to help us narrow down the possibilities?

I

Iggy

The symptoms are:

When I start Project Proffesional and try to log on with both authentication
alternatives, it wasn't able to connect. First, Windows authentication
didn't work, then I've modified the user account to connect with Project
Sever authentication and still the same messagge appeared:

Cannot connect.
Microsoft Project was unable to establish a connection with the selected
Microsoft Project Server. This could be caused by a loss of network
connectivity, invalid username or password, lack of an enterprise global
template, problems with the Microsoft Project Server or database, or your
Microsoft Project Server may have enterprise features enabled.

I have eliminated the possibility for:
- loss of network connectivity (successfull Test Connection)
- invalid username&password

Enterprise features are enabled. If I disable them, then the database
becomes unavailable (of course).

Everything looks Ok with the database, although I don't have sufficcient
knowledge to be sure about it.

But this is as far as I'm able to go right now.

Is Amazon the best (fastest) way to purchase your books?
Availability for Managing Enterprise Projects Using Microsoft Office Project
Server 2003 is a little long (14 days).
I'm from Europe (Slovenia) and it would then take close to a month.... This
book is unavailable at Amazon UK.

Which of the two books should I read first?

Thank you for a quick response.

Iggy:

Regarding the books: If you order them from our web site, you'll have them
in two days. We ship all of our EU orders via FedEx global priority.

Have you tried connecting from different machines? Same on all? Have you
tried testing the site using the EditSite tool? Do you pass on the database
test?

I

Iggy

I've tried ordering through your website, but it was impossible because the
form is designed for shipping in US. When I typed my country (Slovenia) in
the state field or country field, I recieved this message.

Credit card authorization failed. Specific error was 'Unable to derive two
character state abbreviation from entered state in billing address. Please
enter the correct two character abbreviation for your state'.

Can you help me with this?

I'll set up another machine and try to work on my connectivity problem.

So, I'll be back tommorrow.

Iggy:

Use CA for the state code and get the rest of the information in there.
We'll figure it out. Be sure to add the EU ship charge.
