Project Professional licensing quetion

Do I need to purchase Office Project 2003 Professional licenses separately
from Project Server 2003 CALs? Or are the licenses to Project Pro a part of
the Project server Cals, similar to Outlook/Exchange?

Thnks

No. Project Pro is not part of Project Server. Yes you need to purchase it
individually. Only users who are building/editing/managing schedules need
Project Pro. Those who are merely updating or viewing need project web
access CALs.

I was under the impression that a single CAL for Server was included with
each license for Project Pro to allow the PM using Pro to connect with the
Server to publish the plan etc. I might be mistaken though. so perhaps one
of the server gurus can weigh in on the question.

That is the answer to a different question.
Project Server does NOT come with a free copy of Project Pro.

Here is the information from MS Site:
---------------
Project Professional 2003

Each licensed copy includes one Project Server 2003 Client Access License
(CAL).

Requires Project Server 2003 for enterprise project management functionality.
----------

If I buy one copy of Pro, I get one CAL of Server....

So if I just buy copy of one Pro, (and get Server one CAL along with it),
will I be able to access all EPM features, except the team collaboration that
need Web access.

What I want to know is that what extra features I get if I just buy one copy
of Pro and not any other licenses (Web Access, Server etc).

You're right - I misread the original question. Thought he had asked if a
CAL for Server came with each copy of Pro, Mea culpa

No, if I've read correctly what you're asking. A license for Pro gives you
a CAL to access the server if you have one but nothing else. If you do not
have a Server installation where Pro can talk to it, none of the EPM
features in Pro will be available and you have nothing different from what
you'd have with the Standard version. All the features in Pro that are not
in Standard will be grayed out in the menus.

Yep. The CAL is for web access. That is non-existant if you do not have
server running. The general model is you buy one copy of Project Server. A
few copies of Project Pro (for managers/schedule admins) and many Project
Web Access CAL's for the people who need to view schedules or provide task
updates.

I understood now---

- I need Pro to connect to the Server which then gives me access to EPM
features. I cannot coonect to Server with Std edition
- If I do not have Server to connect to, my Pro copy is no different than
the Std edition
- Pro and Server licensed are separately (thus need to nbe bought seprately)
and with Pro, you just get a right to make one connection to Server, if you
have and are running one.
- Multiple copies of Pro can connect to one Server.

Let me know if I am still wrong.
