Project Progress Lines

Can anyone advise me on how progress lines can be modified
to show not only tasks that are either on time or behind
but also indicate tasks that are ahead.

The progrees line when drawn only either passes straight
through a task that is on time or projects backwards for
tasks in delay. This diagraphical method does note give a
true picture of the actual overall progress.

Hi,

I always recommend giving Progress lines a complete miss. They never update
a project realistically and you can't get accurate earned value reports when
using them. Instead the recommended way is to first save a baseline, then
set actual start dates, percent complete then remaining duration. Better yet
enter actual hours when they actually happened using a time sheet system or
the resource usage view. Note: the % complete line should always be on or
very near today's date.

The Tracking Gantt view will then tell you where you are compared to when
you said you would be.

Hello Steve,
I totally agree with Rod Gill's principles of tracking. I never use the
Progress line for traking a project. These Progress Lines are an heritage of
the elastics used in the old days wall slot-in planners.
But if you really want to say that today you already worked on the next
week, you can check the following option, before entering the actual data :
Tools / Options / Calculation / Edits to totals task % complete will be
spread to the status date.
