Project Progress Tracking (actual work complete)

René

Hi!

can anyone please tell me how to track project progress with the help of MS Project using the actual number of deliverables completed.

What do I mean with that: I want to plan a project where the main deliverables are test conditions compleded (both modeled and executed).

I now want to add tasks of say "Modeling XXX" with 85 testconditions and Modeling YYY with 95 testconditions and so on. The progress is determined by the number of testconditions completet eg 54 XXX and 63 YYY conditions. Ho do I calculate % complete for this scenario? Is there a way to document project progress over tima (time-phased)?

It would be ideal if I could model this within Project without the help of e.g. Excel.

Any help?

Thank you,
René

Hello René,

You could create two Material Resources : "Test Modeled" and "Test Executed"
for ex. Specify the Std Rate as you want for these material resource.

Then you assign these material resources to the tasks : Units = 85 for
"TestModeled" on one task and Units = 95 for "TestExecuted" for the other
task.

As strange as it seems, in the Resource Usage View , you can assign Actual
Work on these material resources. So you can enter 54 XXX and 63 YYY.

Hope this helps,

Percent Complete in Project refers to duration. I have a task that
takes 5 days. If I worked on it 4 days I'm 80% complete. But you can
also display a field called % Physical Complete that might do what you
want. If I have to lay a brick walkway that's 100 meters long and I've
done 50 meters, I'm 50% physical complete. So you could estimate that
it will take 10 days to do those 85 test conditions. If you've done 54
of them you're at 100*54/85 % physical complete.
