Project Proposal Workflow

I

Ibrahim Najjar

hi,
I have configured my Project Server 2007 to enable workflows
Server settings-> additional server settings-> project state field is set to
yes
& there is a Workflow defined in the "Proposal proxy list", and content
approval for submitted items is set to yes.

When i try to create a new proposal i dont get workflow part in the New
proposal page. Even if i log on as proposal reviewer i cannot change the
state of the proposal.

Hi,
This is an often mis-understood area. You need MOSS installed and
configured in order to use the Proposals Workflow. Have you got MOSS
installed?

I

Ibrahim Najjar

No I haven't installed moss. I read about it in other locations but I
thought that the Proposal workflow would work without it since the microsoft
documentation doesn't mention anything about moss.

I'll try it a post again.

Thanks.

sorry but I wasn't acquainted with the jargon. Yes of course I installed
Microsoft Sharepoint and then installed MS Project Server 2007 on the same
farm. I then configured all the settings needed for the workflow to work on
the proposal, but the field(which is supposed to appear in the new proposal
page) doesn't appear. I must be missing something but I don't know what it
is. I searched as for how to do it and done what's required(as i said in my
first question) but there is problem. I found another guy with my same
problem but no body has responded to him.

Thanks.

Ibrahim:

There are two SharePoint products, one is WSS 3.0, which is free with
Windows Server, and then there is Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server,
(MOSS), which sits on top of WSS, just like Project Server does. Ben was
referring to the latter product, the one that you must license. This is
required for workflow.

Hi,
I have installed Microsoft Office Sharepoint 2007 then MS Office Project
Server 2007 into one farm. Here is a link where I followed the instructions.

http://technet2.microsoft.com/Offic...86c5-488c-a25a-961afee359041041.mspx?mfr=true

But as it says that if MOSS is instaled before MS Project, then no
configuration is required. Thats true, because all the steps done here, I
found them already made automatically.

"If you currently have Office SharePoint Server 2007 in your environment,
and you plan to deploy Office Project Server 2007 and to use the automated
proposal feature, you do not need to configure the workflow component. This
is automatically done for you."

This is my case. But eventhough, I followed th procedures to make sure it
is done.

Here is another link that describes the procedure if the workflow is
functioning correctly:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/projectserver/HA100779601033.aspx

Under "Create a project proposal" the fifth step:

In the Workflow Status section, click the link to the workflow status and
activity pages.

This field is not visible.

Hope you can find me a solution.

Thaks very much for your time.

Best Regards.

We are having the same problem. We've installed MOSS 3.0, Project Server
2007, followed all the procedures and the workflow status section is not
showing up. Has anyone answered you on this problem yet?

Hi Brad,
Actually, I believe that Gary ( a GREAT MVP'ler) already replied to this
post and answered the original question.

Just to summarise:

If you install Project Server 2007 you will always need to install it with
Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 ( WSS 3.0). In fact Project Server is a WSS
application.

If you like to use the workflow for Proposals and Activities you will need
to install Micrososft Office SharePoint Server 2007 ( MOSS). This will allow
you to run the workflow as indicated by the TechNet link wihtin this post.

I hope that clarifies what components need to be installed in order to run
the workflow.

Please note, there are different worklfow componenst that you can use
without using MOSS. All Workspace worklfows can actually be developed using
SharePont Designer ( yes, yet another new product :) ) The Designer allows
you to create workflows for document managment or risk management for
example, without needing to have MOSS

Please let me know if you need to know more information.

Marc,

Thanks. So, what if I have installed WSS3.0 and MSP07 and want to move to
MOSS 2007? Can I just load it on top of WSS3.0?

Ibrahim,
We actually had to work with a MS technician to solve our problem. We
followed the procedures stated in this discussion just as you did and the
proposal workflow still did not show up. We had to reprovision pwa and
sharepoint services several times to get it to work. If you would like to
review the notes of what we did I can send them to you.

Hope this helps.

Hi Gary, thanks for your books, they've been very helpful. I'm kinda new at
all this. What's NG?

Hi Teresa,

Sorry for the late reply, I got caught up with other business and forgot to
check the discussion group. I can't afford to reprovision pwa because we
customized it and found a turn-around the workflow. But it would be very
helpful if it works.

You said that you could send me your notes, that would be very helpful,
thanks. My email is (e-mail address removed). Or if you have some other
way to send it to me.

Best Regards,
Ibrahim Najjar
