Project Renamer tool works.. Sometimes

I have found the Project Renamer tool to work about 50% of the time in
our PS env. We are at SP2a and plans do not have special characters.
One day the utility will work, the next day it will not, then after
that it will. I tried testing in our stage env. and it works 100% of
the time. Can anyone share similar experiences and solutions? Any
direction would be most welcomed.

Hi,

We have Project Server 2003 SP1 and have been successfully using this
tool for almost a year now ( a few projects renamed every week). Can
you give details as to what you mean by it deosn't work, do you get an
error or what happens?

Thanks,
Dee

The only info we get from the tool is as follows, warning, its very
generic.

I am able to successfuly logon via the tool and list all projects.
I select the project I want to rename and click rename
enter the new name and click ok
Application pauses for a second and then at the bottom of the app I see
a generic error message telling me to contact the administrator. There
really is no details in the message.

We have experienced several issues in our env. We have over 1000 plans
in our db which has been hanging around 15gb in size. Is there anywhere
I can look for more details? Possibly the event viewer?

Found out why it works half of the time :) Our PWA and PS boxes are
load balanced. Turns out one of the servers is hosed and althought not
alarming or showing any obvious signs of failure, I was able to find
folders missing and errors buried in the event log.

When I entered the actual server name vs the URL, first time failed and
would not let me login, even though I used my admin login and even used
a trusted connetion based on my network admin login, Tried the other
server, worked like a charm.... SOOOOOO this means depending on which
side of the VIP you were routed to the renamer may or may not work.
