Project Server 07 and MOSS 07 Best Practice?

I recently completed installation of a large MOSS/Project Server 07 Farm.
I've done a few EPM implementations but none with MOSS in the mix.

The client wants to create MOSS Sites (manually) in a separate collection(s)
that host both custom and Project Server web parts in a dashboard fashion.
Not being a MOSS guy, I tend to think that sites should be automatically
provisioned with the standard PWA site collection. New web part pages could
be added as needed.

My questions are these:

1. Would Project Server Web Parts still work from a security standpoint if
hosted in a different site collection? There will be a RBS, groups and
categories.

2. Is there a best practice for building custom web parts to work with PS
security?

3. Am I wrong to recommend against manual MOSS site provisioning?

I don' t think that the site collection matters if they're using the same
shared service provider. Offering an opinion on manual v automatic creation
would be silly without more information. You should ask your developer
questions at microsoft.public.project.developer.

For us manual versus automatic became a business decision rather than
a technical one. Technically either approach will work although manual
obviously requires a little bit more effort. In the end the
organisation decided that the project control office (PCO) should be
responsible for the initial creation of projects as part of the
exisiting business process for project kick-off. For this reason
project managers do not have the rights to create new projects and the
PCO allocate ownership to projects once they are created.

Site collection decisions matter if the expected size of the site
collection is going to be large (e.g. > 100Gb). If this is the case
you need to consider how you partition the site collections. I'd
recommend jumping over to the microsoft.public.sharepoint.portalserver
group for some discussions on this.

Kirk.
