Project server 2003 and SharePoint connections

I'm having difficulty getting project server 2003 to connect with
sharepoint. In the menu for managing sharepoint (in ps2003) it asks for URL
to sharepoint administration and to a web server associated with sharepoint,
both these are required fields. My problem is that it would not allow me to
use IP addresses, so I gave the server a resolvable URL...it won't let me
use that either. If I leave the old 'server name' in there I get a
'templates' error.

Since this is my first interaction with this combo, I'm getting rather
lost... I did notice that the example URL is a "https", does this mean that
I have to secure the server? Or can I get away with a plain ole 'http'
connection?
