Project Server 2003 Backup

We are upgrading PS2002 to PS2003.

Our internal policy uses ADSM backup software.

Our consultant wants to use SQL Server backup only. (which is what it says
to do in the Disaster Recovery Guide)

Does anyone have any input on ADSM and Project Server backups? Or third
party backups in general? Thanks!

The SQL Server backups will provide backup of your Project Server and WSS
data. There are a number of 3rd party management tools that manage backups
of SQL databases. As long as the management tool can manage backing up of
the databases and recovery has been tested then I would not specify one tool
over others.

Backing up the server through a backup image can be a powerful technique to
reduce to restore time and complexity in the event of a disaster. If there
is not a server image and the server becomes corrupt, destroyed etc then you
would need to rebuild the server including installing Project Server and WSS
and then restoring the backups. This is not a trivial exercise and it can
take considerable time especially if you do not have a documented procedure
or the skills available.

The last point I would make about DR procedures is that you need to test
your disaster recovery procedure. You can not put any value on it until it
is tested.
