Project Server 2003 - Can't open Project existing project anymore

David

I have Project server 2003 installed with Sharepoint Services 2.0 installed
on the same server. I am having problems opening one of the project plans
in the Project 2003 Pro cleint install on a desktop, but I can open it using
the Project Web Access. I can see the data in the SQL server database. I get
no messages when I try to open in Project 2003 Pro client, and Project 2003
Prof. goes "not responding". After 10 - 15 mins I have to "end task" Project
Prof.
I have 15 other project on the project server with no problems, opening,
updating tasks and publishing.
This project has many tasks that need to be updated, but I can't open the
project.
I have tried serveral project server accounts on three different clients.
If I try to open the project directly from PWA I get an error message that I
need to use Project Professional 2003 in order to perform this action, but I
was using Proj. Prof. 2003.
Not sure what other information would help.

It sounds like this problem is badly corrupted. I think you need to
retrieve that last good working copy from one of your SQL Server backups.
Refer to the following FAQ for the steps to restore an individual project:

http://www.projectserverexperts.com/Shared Documents/RestoreProject.htm

Your Project Server administrator will need to delete the corrupted project
before he/she attempts to restore the good working copy. Refer to the
following FAQ for the steps needed to delete a project but to preserver its
WSS subweb:

http://www.projectserverexperts.com/Shared Documents/DeleteProjectWithoutSubweb.htm

Hope this helps.

Dale,

Thanks for the info.

I am concerned that other projects will become corrupted.

I was planned to contact Microsoft and pay them to help me find the problem.
In your experience, is it worth paying Microsoft to help me with this problem?
I do not know of any local folks that can help me out.

I will try to recover an older version of this project.

I have used the info on your site and found the information very helpful.

Thanks,

David

As to whether a call to Microsoft is worth the money, I cannot answer, as I
do not know. I can tell you that occasionally, projects do get corrupted.
No one knows how or why, but you are the victim and not the perpetrator in
that situation. Earlier today, I answered a post in this newsgroup about an
enterprise project that displays a strange dialog whenever it is opened by
the PM, and the PM is utterly unable to publish the project. My guess is
that their situation is like your situation: the project has probably become
corrupted. In your case, the corruption may be so severe that you cannot
even open the project. That's bad.

So, it would do not harm to call Microsoft and pay for their help, and
perhaps the call would even be worth the money! :) Hope this helps.
