I have Project server installed on different machine as exchange server. When
i publish new assignements for Internal resources, everything works fine but
if the resource have an external email, the email notification does not go
out from our organization.
FYI, both resources are added to Project Resource Pool with their e-mail
addresses.

Example:
resource1: (e-mail address removed) (resource inside the organization)
resource2: (e-mail address removed) (resource outside the organization)
Task1: assign Task1 to resource1
Task2: assign Task2 to resource2
Publish new assignments
Resource1 receive e-mail for new task but nothing for resource2

Could you please help me with that?

Check the network / system configurations for emails & DNS.

1. See if you can send emails to the remote domain from your network.
2. Ping that remote email domain (server.domain.com) from your project
server & see the result
3. Check your exchange mail server queue & bad mail folders for mails sent
to that remote host.

Thank you for your answer.

I can send e-mails to that server without any problem. but pinging to the
remote server fail.
The exchange mail server queue & bad mail folders for mails sent to that
remote host are empty.

FYI, our remote mail server is hosted in our ISP.
What should i do to ping that server if i can send e-mails without problem?

Thank you,

Thanks for you and Microsoft help support.

I add project server ip address in SMTP relay.

All things worked fine.

Thanks,

I am having a similar issue. I added the internal project server IP address
in the SMTP relay for the mail server. The problem is that I am not longer
receiving errors in the health monitor saying the email is not being sent....
Is there a service that gets disabled when the project server can't sent
alert emails?
