project server 2003 log on Error 5002

R

Rick Theisen

I have used project professional server 2003 and the web
access piece for some time. I am now unable to access
either application. Does anyone know either what table
stores the password or what DLL stores the password
information. I think one of these is corrupt. I am the
only user at my site that is affected.

Rick:

It's remotely possible that something happened to your account in Project
Server. You should have an admin open your account in the Enterprise
Resource Pool and check it. It's way more likely that something changed on
your local machine to cause this. Can you logon from a different machine?
You need to troubleshoot this way to narrow down the possibilities.

Yes I can logon to the application for another machine.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the applcation
and using the windows XP restore feature to no avail.

I am having this same exact problem. This just started happening yesterday.
I was previously able to log into the project 2003 server, but yesterday for
some reason, I no longer can. I am able to log in from other machines, just
not from my own workstation.

Rick,
Did you recently change passwords, or do you happen to have an
administrator's account with the same password as your own? I've just found
out that the reason this issue is happening to me is because the Project
2003 Server believes that I am logging onto it as another account. My
regular domain account does not have administrator privileges - this is
reserved for a separate domain account. For some reason, when I attach to
the Project Server, whether it be through PWA or attaching to a hidden
administrative share, it believes I am logging on using the domain
administrator account. I found this out by attaching to the hidden
administrative share (<servername>\c$) and going to Computer Management and
checking the Sessions.

It's very possible in both cases that you've got corrupted profiles. Rename
your profile on the machine and create a new one. If that solves the
problem, you can migrate your profile folders to the new one.

I've found out that for some reason, Windows is caching the name/password
combination that I used to log onto the administrative 'C$' share two days
ago. I attached to that share using my domain administrator account and now
it won't go away. Reboots of both machines do not work.

I do have another account for the administrator. My
error did show up right after I used the administrator
account. I ended up having the desktop people recreate
my account. they deleted me from active directory and
then rebuilt me the same way they do a new person that
comes into the company. That seems to have worked.
There should be an easier way around this issue.
