Project Server 2003 security group question

HI, I have been trying to tweak the default security groups as follows:

I need a "project lead" group that can go to Project Server, see only their
own projects, and be able to edit them.

Out of the box, it looks like they can only see their own projects, but lack
the security to open them in Project from the Project Server. I've tried to
give the group additional rights but can't seem to get it to work.

The "project manager" group can open projects from the server, however they
can see all the projects, not just their own.

So I need to figure out how to allow "project leads" to open projects from
the server or how to tighten "project managers" so they can only see their
own projects.

Any ideas? Thanks in Advance

In the Team Leads group, set the permissions in the Permissions grid using
the Project Manager template. Do the same in the Global Permissions grid as
well. Hope this helps.

Dale, I did as you advised, may be working except I have lost the right to
Build Team from Enterprise. This is checked in the Security Templates Window
for the Team Lead group. If I put the person back in the Project Manager
group, they can build team from enterprise, but they can see all the
projects, not just their own, which is what I want.

any ideas, thanks.

Another suggestion, create a custom Security Categories allow you to set
scope on specific projects. I found interestingly, that not setting group
membership (i.e. Project Managers), but setting the Category's security via
Project Manager template, along w/ the global settings to same template does
limits scoope. If a member of Project Manager's group, it opens up all
projects to the user.

Without knowing what default permissions you have changed in Project Server,
I'm not sure I can zero in on an exact solution, but you might try this:

1. Edit Resources section of the "My Projects" category to "All current and
future resources" and click the Save Changes button.
2. In the Permissions grid of the Team Leads group, set the Assign Resource
permission to Allow

Hope this helps.

The default permissions for the Project Managers group only allow the PM to
see his/her own projects.

Thanks Dale, great advice!.

Changing the My Projects to allow "All Current and future resources" did the
trick, I already had the Assign Resource permission set.

nice work. Now my Team Leads can see only their own projects, and can open
them and assign resources. Perfect.
