Project server 2007 - can't save to server

K

Kerry

We have a new user, who has all the same rights I have. He is trying to take
a project pro plan and save it to server. I have done this multiple times.
Problem - when he tries a save as, it's always going back to an mpp file. For
me, it always brings up the save to project server screen. He's connected
fine. This even happens if he opens an existing server plan, and tries to
save it. We've looked at the defaults and they look the same. Any ideas would
be greatly appreciated.

Is the user a member of multiple Security groups in PWA, while you are a
member of only a single Group? If so, ask the Project Server administrator
to remove the user from any other Groups except the Group to which you
belong. Let us know.

I'm stating to think this must be a project pro installation issue. All these
folks were loaded with pro at different times. My one user still can't save
to server, but he can see published projects from pro. I now have another
user, setup in server at the sametime, exactly the same, that can't see
published projects from pro, but can save to server. The projects in working
display fine, and he can publish, but when he changes to view published,
nothing show up. Interesting. Suggestions?

I'm curious how you set up your security permissions in PWA. Did you simply
add these two users to the Project Managers group? That is all you need to
do. You do not need to add Categories to each user or manually set Global
Permissions for each user. Let us know how you set up security.

Dale,

Thanks for your interest. I've resolved the view publish issue. But the
can't save to server is still a problem. I now have 2 folks with that
problem. One is set up in the Project manager group, with my organization
category. The other is set up as an administrator, with no category.
Everything is like it was out of the box, except we flipped the project
manager group to specifically not be able to add new resources. We in the PMO
are only allowed to add new resources, since we control the enterprise
resource pool very strictly.

I'm running out of ideas. I need to have a PM create external links before a
baseline tomorrow, and they can't save their plan. Today's been some fun.

I'm running out of ideas as well. Perhaps someone else could take a stab at
helping you resolve your problem.

Hi Kerry,

I think Dale has covered a most areas.

Have you applied Service Pack 1 to the Server and your MS Proj Professional,
while the others have not yet applied SP1 to their MS Project installation.

Just a stab at it sorry.

Problem solved. As it turns out, these folks have had project pro 2007 for a
while. I should have thought about this at the beginning. In Project pro, in
their save option default it was project 2000 -2003. They were running to be
compatable with 2003 mpp files. Once they changes to project(*.mpp) they can
save to server. Might not happen often, but it's one tidbit I'm storing away
for future reference. Thanks again for your input.

Thanks for letting us know the solution! You had me scratching my head over
this one. :)
