Our project managers have been literally salivating over this feature since
it was announced. In testing we've found that closing a task to updates does
a few things for you. It...
- Prevents a user from updating the task sheet directly and adding time to
the task (good)
- Prevents a user from adding the task on their timesheet (also good)
However... and this is a big one since we are using timesheets for all
updates, it does NOT PREVENT A USER FROM UPDATING TIME TO A TASK ON A
TIMESHEET AND IMPORTING THAT TIME TO THE TASKS! The time is imported and
passed right on through to the project manager.
Suggestion - Follow the same rules for time input regardless of whether it's
input into the task sheet or timesheet. This behavior really reduces the
effectiveness of this feature. I've been told it's by design, if so then
please talk with the designer about the importance of having consistent
behavior. Closing a task should mean closing a task regardless of where
you're plugging in the numbers.
