Project Server 2007--Close Tasks To Update Problem

T

Terry Peters

We are using Project Server 2007 and have a problem with Project Managers
being able to use the Close Tasks To Update Function. The tasks on which we
tested this were marked 100% Complete and the project file is closed in
Microsoft Project. The Project Managers have been allowed this permission at
the PM group level. When they complete the Close Tasks Page and try to
submit chosen tasks for closure, the error message says "Access Denied."
This would appear to be a permissions issue.

Is there a companion permission to the "Close Tasks To Update" that also has
to be set to enable this to work? Or has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks for your advice in advance, as always,

I have seen the same behavior. Our Administrators can close tasks just fine,
but our PMs cannot. Both have the "Close Tasks to Updates" global permission.
Our PMs also have all the Project category permissions for My Projects.

This is either some weird bug or you're right about some companion
permission. I think we need help from a higher power to answer this.

I have seen problems with the My Personal Projects category interfering with
other permissions. If you remove the My Personal Projects category from the
Project Managers group, does that resolve the issue? If so, let us know and
we can log this as another bug in the system.

I tried that at your suggestion. Nothing changed.

This was an intriguing idea, that My Personal Projects might be the cause.
Have you seen any other problems with using this category?

Thanks,
Jay

Yes, I reported a bug that the My Personal Projects category interfers with
the My Projects category when the PM wants to save a baseline for an
enterprise project. Hope this helps.

Dale and Jay:
Thanks for the suggestions. We will try them and see if we get a positive
result.
