Project Server 2007 - Create a wss workspace linked to the project

We want the manager can create a project and be grated to create a wss
workspace linked to the project.
So, we have grant the project manager with the permission "Manage Windows
SharePoint Services". If this permission is not granted the project manager
can't create the workspace. But with this permission, the pm can change the
server setting about the provisioning of all the sites in project server. Is
possible to have only the first behavior ? Which is the right configuration
to make the make able a project manager to create a wsss workspace?

Hi Carlo,

are you sure that this is for 2007? I know of the setting in 2003 and no you
dont need to give PM's access to this setting. It is enough if you give
him/her access for creating a Project, that will then automatically generate
the workspace.
Hope this helps

Hi Marc,
sorry i'm sure, it's 2007 behavior :-(
The PM have the access for crating Projects, i can save it. When i publish
the project, the date are correctly passed from draft DB to publish DB but in
the queue i can see an error on the creation of the workspace because the PM
is not granted.
The only way that i found to create correctly the workspace is to give the
permission ""Manage Windows SharePoint Services" to the PM. But this is not a
good chose for us. Maybe i can find other permission for make the same, but i
need help....

Thanks in advance
Carlo

Hi Carlo,

It does look like a permission error ( ok you dont have to be a rocket
sience to know that :)
This is what I have on information in regards to the Workspace creation in
2007

Manage Windows SharePoint Services
Manage Windows SharePoint Services is a global permission that allows a user
to create and delete Windows SharePoint Service sites, update the list of
authorized users, and maintain the servers running Windows SharePoint
Services from the Admin center in Project Web Access. Grant this permission
to members of your organization who are administrators for Project Web Access
and/or administrators for the servers running Windows SharePoint Services and
SharePoint Portal Server.

New Project
Allows a user to add a new project to the Project Server database using
Project Professional or the Project Server Interface (PSI). Grant this
permission to any user in your organization who needs to publish or save new
projects to the Project Server database from Project Professional using the
Save to Project Server dialog box or the Import Projects Wizard or create new
projects in the Project Server database using the PSI.

So as it stants at the moment you need to have Manager Sharepoint Services
rights. I find this hard to believe and will need to do some testing to see
what rights a user requires to create a workspace. In the meantime, i would
create a test user and "try out" some scenarios of creating a workspace
within your organisation. If I find something I will let you know
Sorry of not beeing more specific

Hi Marc,
i solved my problem. This is the behaviour :

permision allowed - The PM can manage all sites of wss and the provisioning
of the sites

permission denied - The PM can't crate the wss workspace

permission no allowed and no denied - the PM don't have the wss
administrative permission and can create the wss workspace

Thank you for the help
Carlo
