Project Server 2007 functional issue

We have just discovered what for us is a major issue.

Project with start date, let's say 01/01/2007
a regular team member goes to enter time on tasks, but he enters time on a
certain task before the project start date, let's say week one of 2006.
System accepts the time entered (first problem), changes start and end dates
(second issue), and adds time in the Work section from the date the resource
entered the time onwards (third issue).

This is major, has anybody else foud this problem? Is there a fix for it?

Did the Project Manager accept the task update? If so, then I think
this is functioning as designed. Tasks must span the time when they
have work or actual work, and a project's start and finish must
include the tasks within the project.

If the PM doesn't want resources to report time before the scheduled
project start, then it is the PM's responsibility to not accept
updates that apply time before the project starts.

I may be missing something...

This is by design the the way Project Pro has worked ever since I've been
using it. This has nothing to do with Project Server which in this case is
just the transport layer for the data. If a resource works on a project prior
to the scheduled start day the task started on the day work began. The
schedule changes with reality. Any day you record actual work, project will
set work to equal the actual and move any remaining planned work into the
future.
