Project Server 2007 in a virtual machine.

Did anybody already have some problem with Project Server 2007 being
executed in a virtual machine? (VMWare, for instance)

My manager insists on using it in VMWare, but I don't think
convenient. Technically, which your opinion?

Excuse for my English. :)

We are using a mix of virtual servers and hardware. I think the virtuals are
VMware.

Our current system uses a three-server farm configuration. The project
server application and sharepoint central admin are on one virtual server.
The main SharePoint Services and PWA/PSI are on the second virtual server.
The third server in our farm is the SQL Server 2005 which is on hardware. It
is shared with other applications and loaded with Analysis Services,
Reporting Services, etc.

So far, things are running fine. We have migrated only a few users but some
large projects to PS2007. Within a month or so, we will have migrated over
100 projects and a larger number of PMs.

The production servers that host the virtual servers are pretty hefty, able
to handle a lot. This is probably the reason we have good performance. Our
understanding here -- if we begin taking performance hits from virtuals,
then the poor performers will be migrated to hardware or might expand the
farm to virtuals on other hardware.

For your situation -- depends on the number of users, projects, web access,
etc. as well as what servers are going to host the virtual servers.

Best of luck.

Ok, I understood. We made tests here so that PWA, Sharepoint and SQL
Server 2005 they are installed in an only virtual machine VMWare. :
( The jobs of the queue turned with the state "awaiting processing "
for some 24 hours! That for operations of check-in of the projects.
When we transferred the virtual machine for a better host, he started
to usually execute the works but, even so, I am with doubt if it would
be really better to install it in a real machine.

Depending on the size of your implementation, it probably is not a good idea
to host SQL and Project Server on the same server for the reasons your
experiencing.

I'd recommend that you reinstall SQL\OLAP\SRS onto a seperate physical
server, and use the virtualised platform for the application/web layers.

I have a number of customers who are running Project Server 2007 on VMWare
3.5 without any issues, but you need to be aware of Microsoft Support Policy.
