I am trying to install project server 2007 beta 2 and following the beta 1
installations instuctions. Sharepoint is working fine but in last stage of
project web access installation. I am getting this provisioning error.

server. Office SharePoint Server 5/26/2006 5:51 PM

I will appreciate if someone can tell what could be my issue.

Hi,

I had the same thing last night and I tried everything but without luck. I
then continued reading the deployment document to the "Known Issues with
Office Project Server 2007 Beta 2 Installation" where I found the following:

Provisioning a Project Web Access instance using a local machine account
fails with an error
While Office Project Server 2007 supports operation on a single server
configured with local machine accounts (for example, disconnected from a
domain), Project Web Access instance provisioning fails if you provide a
Project Web Access administrator such as server\user.
The current Beta 2 workaround is to configure the farm using local machine
accounts and during PWA provisioning, use a domain account for the inital
Project Web Access administrator requested by the Project Web Access instance
provisioning page. After provisioning completes, navigate to that Project Web
Access site and add a local machine account as an administrator user by going
to the Project Web Access Server Settings page, clicking Manage users, and
then adding a new user.

SO you didn't do anything wrong but MS likes to make things difficult for us
:)

Thanks Sleepy_Sam,

I am trying to install this on a stand-alone virtual PC. Which is not
connected to any domain. Do I have to use a domain account and not use a
account that is a local account?

Wason,

The problem with Beta 2 is that during installation they ask for a "domain"
user account in 2 places!! I was installing on a stand alone machine but
there is no way for the provissioning to work without a domain account!!
What I'm doing now is create a domain virtual pc on one machine and installa
Project server 2007 on another machine and use a domain account for most of
the users needed within installation. Provissioning this way works fine.
So I guess with Beta products you have to suffer!

Good luck

Hi Sleepy_Sam,

Did you find a way to install Project Server without 2 virtual machines ?
(I mean, with a single domain controller)

Thanks,
Nicolas

Nicolas,

if you have a machine which is connected to a domain then all u need is a
domain user and the installation will work. My problem was that I was trying
to install it at home where I only have one machine!

I do agree with sleepy sam. I did the installation in a machine that was
connected to domain and it worked like a charm.

Thanks

Hi,

We followed the deployment procedure described in “Deployment Guide for
Office Project Server 2007†and installed Windows SharePoint Services as a
small farm + Project Server 2007 on single computer.

We used two options and both of them failed.

First option:

All web applications and Shared Services Provider were created using local
machine account 'ALEXANDROVA\administrator'. PWA site was created using
domain user account TEST\sps. An error occurred during creating database.

Provisioning 'ProjectServer': Granting login to 'ALEXANDROVA\administrator'
on primary server.

Provisioning 'ProjectServer': Adding user 'TEST\sps' to project server as
admin.

Provisioning 'ProjectServer': Failed to grant access and add user
'ALEXANDROVA\administrator' to role on databases because of an exception
Object reference not set to an instance of an object..

Second option:

All web applications and Shared Services Provider were created using domain
user account.

PWA site was created using domain user account. PWA site has been
provisioned. But access to it via

Domain user account failed. I have received the message:

An unexpected error has occurred.

When I logged to the team site using local machine account
ALEXANDROVA\Administrator, I have received the message:

I hope somebody can explain the situation and help to solve the problem.
Installation of Project Web access took already 6 days!!!

Elena,

Login in as domain account...I would recommend doing all installation logged
in as domain account

Hi Elena,

We have also found ourselves in the same boat. We have logged in and
configured with domain accounts, local accounts and every combination
within, but still get the same error as you mention: "Failed to grant
access and add user to role on databases...".

Were you able to find a resolution? For the people who got this
working...did you use domain accounts for every account specified in
the deployment or was it some combination of local and domain accounts?
