Project Server 2007 & Master Projects

Kim

I have been reading through some blogs & other information, but can't seem to
find a straight answer. Will Project Server 2007 allow for Publishing master
projects?

Kim:

The system allows it, however we strongly discourage publishing from Master
Projects. While saving them to the server is just fine and dandy, allowing
them to be published runs the risk of duplicate assignments appearing on
resource timesheets - one from the original project and another from the
Master. Turn on the save feature, but do not select to allow publishing on
Master Projects unless you fully intend to publish only from master
projects. If you elect the latter approach, be certain to train your PMs on
the potential perils.

Thanks. If so many want want this feature in 2007, why isn't it being
offered? I was really hoping that 2007 would address that issue.

Hi,Kim
Sure, the project server 2007 can publish master project.
and the subproject can be expanded in the PWA, it can not expand in 2003.
so, I think it is a good feature.
Gary said that "however we strongly discourage publishing from Master ", I
don't agree. for it's the idea in 2003. I 2007, publish master project in PWA
is a good choice.
thanks

If you want to avoid possible resource allocation duplicates, then only
publish the project plan from the Master, and do your assignment work in the
sub-projects. Seems like that should work in the new Project Server, it does
in 2003.

Getting the subproject to expand in the next release will be a big
improvement!
