Project Server 2007 Requiremenets/New Deployment

As IT Director at my company, my bosses want me to deploy Project Server 2007
for the use of 7 individuals initially. I have a few questions based on what
software this deployment will require based on our setup and I would
appreciate any help:

1) We currently have 3 servers (SBS 2003, 2k3 Standard for Terminal
Services, and our future 2k3 Standard Server for MS Project). Since MS
Project 2003/2007 will be going on its own server, do I need to purchase a
copy of SQL 2005 (like 2 consultants I know have told me) or can I get by
with SQL 2005 Express Edition as seems to be the case in the Microsoft
Documentation I have been reading?

2)We currently own a copy of MS Project Server 2003 (yet to be installed)
and I was wondering whether MS Project 2007 clients can interact with it, if
we were to buy those licenses? If not, then I suppose we will upgrade to the
newer project server or downgrade our new clients to the 2003 edition.

3) And if full blown SQL is needed, does SQL 2005 need to be put in
compatibility mode if interacting with MS Project Server 2003? (This
question is void of course if I don't need a full SQL Standard copy to run
this on a standalone server)

Thanks for all the help. I have tried consulting various websites and
people but have either been getting different answers or no answers at all.
Thank you.

I appreciate the response, and the FAQ was more helpful than others I have
seen out there. I am still wondering about the SQL question, cause it says I
do need it, but then when I click on further it mentions it for farm
installations. If the Express Edition were allowed on standalone
installations, do I lose any functionality with that version rather than
using SQL200 full version?

I'm in the same boat too.

If I install Project 2007 Server with the default MSDE 2005 Express database
- will I be able to do cube reporting?

Hello Simon,

As your question concerns Project Server, I suggest you re-post your
question to the project server newsgroup
(microsoft.public.project.server) if you haven't already posted there.

Although most of the folks who answer questions in the newsgroups visit
all the groups, I think there's a higher concentration of "server gurus"
there and you may get a quicker answer.

I hope this helps.
