Project Server 2007 restoring from SQL DBs

O

OK

Hi,
I had a Project server 2007 and then Windows server was reinstalled from
scratch. Now I have only SQL 2005 Databases.

Is any way to have Project Server working as before?
I understand it's a Disaster Recovery Plan for Project Server, but so far I
can't find any recommendation.

Thanks in advance for any help, links, docs.

There's really nothing out from MS yet, unfortunately. The first
relevant question is, precisely what are you looking to restore? Just
the Project Server data, or the workspace data as well?

I need to have the whole Prolect Server working as before crash.
And I have only SQL Server 2005 and all the Project server related DBs on it.

Indeed we don't have any data on the WSS sites for each project, but to see
further for creating DRP I think we should consider this possibility to
restore all projects and workspaces as well

Since MS has yet to release an "official" guide on restoring Project
(it would appear here:
http://technet2.microsoft.com/Offic...1f87-4729-bf30-e79ad0debeec1033.mspx?mfr=true),
I can only recommend the following:

1. Make backups of all the databases you have on your DB server and
store them in a safe location just in case something blows up along
the line here -- you don't want to lose any data if something goes
wrong, even though I expect this process will be relatively
straightforward for you.
2. Reinstall the Project Server bits to your WFE/App Servers.
3. Follow the directions in this article (http://
technet2.microsoft.com/Office/en-us/library/5a39029f-0939-452b-
acd2-44ff87e7ff711033.mspx?mfr=true) under "Migrating using SQL Server
Tools" to restore the content databases and SSP -- note that this
article is for MOSS07, but since MOSS07 is just an extension of WSS3,
you'll perform the same steps. Note that you'll be starting on Step 3,
as you already have the databases and you installed MOPS07 in Step 1.
Note that Step 3 in this article instructs you to create 3 Web
Applications (one for the SSP, one for the People site, and one for
the Portal Site). As we are modifying this process slightly for the
requirements of MOPS07, you'll only need to make two web applications
-- one for the SSP, and one for PWA.
Additionally, this process is also discussed in this blog post (http://
msmvps.com/blogs/cgross/archive/2007/05/09/moving-a-wss-3-0-site-to-a-
new-farm.aspx).
Essentially, we are going to pretend that this is a migration to a
new, blank farm -- there's really no difference between a DR restore
and a migration to a new farm when you get down to it. Just make sure
you use the same ports and such that you used before.
4. Since you're restoring the SSP, the PWA site you provisioned SHOULD
exist (meaning you shouldn't have to reprovision it). This means that
as long as all your usernames, passwords, servernames, etc. are still
the same, things should start working. If for some reason you have
problems with PWA site not working, you can provision another PWA site
and then reconfigure it to use your old databases.

That should be it. Let me know if you are successful, or if you run
into any issues or have any questions.
