Project Server - Access Control

Hi:
I am new to project server. I have four projects that I'd like to
manage using project server. How do you control user's access to
his/her projects only? i.e., not all users need to see all the
projects. There are only a handful of people who are working across
projects. I would like to administratively define, who sees what
project in their project center within project web access

What version of Project Server are you using? If you are using Project
Server 2003, and you are referring to project managers, then the default
permissions in Project Server allow each PM to see only his/her own
projects. If you are referring to team members, then modify the My Tasks
category in PWA to include only the Project Center views you wish for team
members to see. Hope this helps.

Dale:
Thanks for the quick response. Like I said, i am fairly new to
project server environment. Here is what I have done so far:

- Added User 1 as Project Manager in PWA
- User 1 uploaded the mpp file to project server through colaboration
- Added User 2 as PM in PWA
- User 2 uploaded the mpp file
- When user 1 or user 2 goes to project center, then they see 2
project links.

One of our requirement is that all team members see the project
schedule

- Added User 3 as team member in PWA
- Gave user 3 access to My Tasks and My Projects categories
- The tasks and projects categories have both projects as viewable
- When user 3 goes to project center, she does not see any projects.

I dont know if there is an issue with set up or I am not getting the
permissions correctly. Another thing, when users 1&2 uploaded their
respective projects, the resources never got picked up by project
server, only the schedules. I ouwld really appreciate any help in
this regard.

Regards
Ram

First of all, you never answered my question. What version of Project
Server are you using? 2002 or 2003?

Second, I don't understand at all what you mean by "uploaded the mpp file
through collaboration." If your projects exist as .mpp files, then your
PM's need to import those projects using Tools - Enterprise Options - Import
Project to Enterprise. And if those files truly are .mpp files, you should
NEVER publish .mpp files to Project Server.

Third, it sounds like the resources were not added to each project using
Tools - Build Team from Enterprise. This would especially be true if your
PM's saved their projects as .mpp files.

Lastly, what changes have you made to the default permissions in Project
Server, if any?

Please answer my questions if you expect me to be able to help you.
