Project Server and SharePoint error when rebuilding a site.

Jesse Schuchart

My site crashed, so I had to rebuild the Project Site.

I used the SharePoint products and technologies configuration wizard to
disconnect from the server farm (only actually running on the single server).

I then reran SharePoint products and technologies configuration wizard to
setup the site.

Configured the Project Service and attached to the existing dB's.

Previously, I used the url http://servername.domain.forest/PWA/default.aspx .

Now when I attempt the use the same URL, I get the following error:

"An unexpected error has occurred"

I have tested this one 3 servers now and I receive the exact same result.
Is there a path I should apply to the servers in order to allow fully
qualified server names after a reinstall of the system?

Hi Jesse,
Try looking in the log files of your sharepoint server for more details,
The files are located at [Sharepoint directory]:\Program Files\Common
Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\LOGS

Hope this helps

I don't see anything in the log that pertains to the URL being invalid or
that there is an error in the URL.

What should I be looking for, besides event codes. There is nothing in the
event logs either.

Jesse,
How exactly did you backup and restore? Reason I am asking is that you have
restored your Content DB, and only the 4 project server db's, you will need
to delete the PWA site that is in the Content DB first. Then you can create
a new one with the restored PRoject Server databases.

If you have farm level backups, you can just restore the entire farm -
probably should be your first choice...

thanks,
Nico

After I removed the server from the site farm, I deleted all of the dB's
EXPECT for the 4 Project Server dB's.

That way, when I reran the SharePoint configuration tool, it should have
setup the site from scratch.

Hi,
The log might not give answers regarding url probelms, but it might give
some pointers regarding other issues that trigger the unexpected error.
The unexpected error message should appear in the log file, is there
anything suspicious you see in your log in the area of the error message you
recieved?
Maybe sql access or file access problems?

I found the issue now.

By setting the host header value to the fully qualified domain name, the
issue was fixed.
