Hi:

I am trying to understand the Project Server Client Access License (CAL)
requirements, I do need license for the Project Server, SQL Server, I also
need CAL for each user using PWA, how about SQL CAL, how many CAL would I
need?

OK lets see if I can help

Each PWA user required a Project Server CAL ( please not this is NOT
concurrnent)
Should these users already access SQL Server ( via another Program possibly)
then you wont require any additional SQL licenses.
Should these users ( lets say 10 ) never accessed your SQL before, ( meaning
that you dont have SQL CALs for them) then you will need to purchase more SQL
CAL's.

That is my understanding.
I hope this helps, but to make sure you should talk to a microsoft certified
license partner who is able to tell you what exactly you need.

Lets assume you have one server:

Windows 2003 with IIS and SQL with Project Server

You need one Windows 2003 license
You need one SQL 2000 license
You need one MS Project Server license

For each "project manager" you need
MS Project 2003 Professional which comes with:
(a) MS Project 2003 Professional license
(b) PWA (Project Web Access license

Which means all Project Users do not need
to get additional licenses.

All users need to get CALs.

For example, lets say you have:

3 people who uploads projects or resourse pool to Project Server
30 users who report time, look at, or otherwise access PWA

You need to buy 30 CALs.

Now:
Lets assume you have two servers:

Windows 2003 with IIS with Project Server
Windows 2003 with SQL

You need two Windows 2003 license
You need one SQL 2000 license
You need one MS Project Server license

Everything else stays the same.

As the previuos poster mentioned, please check your vendor for specifics.
Also if you are a high volume purchasers, you can get on a discount schedule
from Microsoft.
