Project Server cannot connect to Sharepoint

I installed Sharepoint team services on a Windows 2000 SP2
box, then Project Server 2002 on the same box. The box is
a domain controller configured in Active directory, and
SQL Server 2000 SP3 is also on the same box. There is no
proxy server.

When I use the Project Server admin to connect to
Sharepoint, it says "Microsoft Project Server cannot
connect to the specified Web server running SharePoint
Team Services. The reasons could be
1. The specified SharePoint Web server port 80 in
incorrect.
2. The specified SharePoint server administration
port 3607 is incorrect.
3. The SharePoint administration port is an SSL port
check box is incorrectly set for the specified SharePoint
server administration port 3607

I read all the knowledgebase articles, read the installing
Sharepoint/Project server article etc. Sharepoint works
fine if I go in directly to the Sharepoint site admin
site. All the other project server 2002 functionality is
fine. I used proxyconfig with these parameters: proxycfg -
d -p fake-proxy-name:80 "*;<local>"

I used the pscomp+ utility to make sure my domain
STSAdmin, STSReader accounts were correctly configured.
These accounts are administators on the box. The accounts
have rights in the sharepoint database on SQL Server. I
even made STSAdmin a dbowner. But, I still cannot
connect. Any ideas?

After a long day of struggling I somewhere found the line
that you should always use the proxycfg thing, even if
you don't have a proxy.

I used the following, and now it works.

proxycfg -d -p proxyserver;localOWNSERVERNAME;ip-
address;FDNQ

Hope this helps.

It is a one pc network, to be used only for demo
purposes. The reason for making it a domain controller is
only to use and show windows authentication loging when
using Project Professional and Project Server, on the same
machine.

Jim:

You don't need it to be domain controller for demo purposes. For demo
purposes local machine accounts will work. I'd recommend not setting up your
demo this way because you'll have to log in and out constantly to
demonstrate features. Use one administrator account to demonstrate
authentication and publish plans and use Project Server accounts for
everything else.
