Project Server installation

Gazairi

Hello,

I would like to install Project Server 2003. My server OS is Windows 2000
Terminal..is it can comply with Project Server 2003?
Is it OS WIndows 2003 is better to be installed to comply with Project
Server 2003?

To setup Microsoft Project Server 2003, I need Project Server 2003 setup
file,Project 2003,SQL Server 2000, Sharepoint Services and I found all these
setup files can be free downloaded.
Does it means all are free???
That means the license is only for Windows Server 2003?
How about if we want to setup in many clients to access to Project Server
2003?

One more thing, my server now was setup as domain controller. Actually this
server was used for other purpose before and now I want to use it for Project
Server 2003 & components installation. So, can Project Server 2003 work in
Domain Controller? If cannot, how to disable the server from become a domain
controller. This is because, I have problem to create Local User Account as
mentioned in Installation Guide for Single Server .

Please guide me.
Thank you.

Hi Gazairi --

First of all, if the server has been used for other purposes before
now, I highly recommend flattening the machine and reinstalling the
operating system... then you know that you're starting with a clean
slate, and there will be no residual pieces which may cause issues with
your new installation.

Project Server 2003 will work on Windows 2000, but if you plan to
install Windows SharePoint Services, then you will need Windows Server
2003 (will not work properly with Windows 2000). If you're starting
from scratch anyway, and if you have a license for Windows Server 2003,
then this is definitely the way to go.

The major software components that you will need are:

1. Windows Server 2003 with the latest service pack
2. SQL Server 2000 with the latest service pack
3. SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services with the latest service pack (must
match the SP for SQL Server 2000)
4. Windows SharePoint Services v2 with the latest service pack
5. Project Server 2003 with the latest service pack
6. Project Professional 2003 with the latest service pack; one copy for
each person who will be creating / editing / updating project schedules

Windows SharePoint Services and all service packs are free, but the
other pieces (OS, SQL, Project Server, Project Pro) are not.
Additionally, from a licensing perspective, you should purchase CALs
(Client Access Licenses) for each person who will be accessing PWA
(Project Web Access); I believe that you can purchase each copy of
Project Pro bundled with a PWA CAL (Project Pro users will need to
access PWA). You may want to speak with your local friendly Microsoft
rep to get pricing.

Installing this system can be a bit tricky if you've never done it
before; let us know if you have any other questions.

Good luck!

Hi, i have on question about the licence.

"Additionally, from a licensing perspective, you should purchase CALs

What is the CAL's. Is a software? We bought a Project Server with 15
licences. This licence is for personal computers?

To work with PWA on may personal computer I need the PROJECT PROFESSIONAL,
correct?
Thanks
