Project Server Licensing question (continued..)

Walid

Hello:

I am creating a new thread as I can no longer find this thread in the
03/05/2009 posts.

Thank you Ben Howard, Rolly Perreaux, and Gary L. Chefetz for all your
responses. Your feedback is always of great help.

In regards to SQL 2008 64-BIT, I was looking for any specific advantages to
WSS or PS. However, performance would definetly be an advantage. I haven't
worked with 2008 yet so I wasn't sure of all the advantages; specific to WSS
& PS or performance related.

I do have a question for Gary though. In your book, "implementing and
administrtering MS PS 2007 2nd edition", page 178 (configuring OLAP Services
for SQL 2005), would this configuration be much different for SQL 2008? Have
you actually tested this deployment? Could you point me to some technet
articles if any?

Also, should I be aware of any "gotchas" around PS deployment in WIN2K8
64-BIT and SQL 2008 64-bit?

Many thanks,

Walid

Hi Walid,
Re SQL2008 64bit, all the advantages are around performance, unless you
decide to use SQL Reporting Services (2008) which includes some more
functionality regarding indicators (see Christophe Fiesinger's blog).

I won't comment directly on Gary's book, however SQL2008 will install fine,
but there were issues regarding getting Analysis Services working. This is
now documented (see Brian Smith's blog).

Sorry I can't put direct links on here to the above blogs, but my mobile
broadband is playing up and is exceedingly slow at the moment!

Walid:

Again, in SQL the advantage is performance. Like Ben stated, follow the
directions on Brian Smith's blog to install Analysis Services. The biggest
advantage to deploying Project Server 64bit now, besides performance, is the
ability to play forward to P14, which will require 64bit OS. If you want an
easier path to the future, deploy the 64bit version.

Thank you for the responses and the links!

should I be aware of any "gotchas" around PS deployment in Windows Server
2008?

Also, I am planning on using Kerberos for authentication - I have
documentation on Kerberos configuration but I have heard that this may cause
issues with index and search. Has anyone come across any issues with using
Kerberos for WSS & PS?

Regards,

Walid
