Project Server/Project Professional compatability

We are using Project Professional 2002 to create timelines. If we purchase
Project Server 2003, and get the 2003 CALs, will I still be able to use the
Project 2002 software to create and publish projects to 2003 Server? If so,
will my resources be able to view projects on the server and save them to
their PCs if they have the 2002 Project software?

Yes but almost all the new functionality added in 2003 would be
unavailable to you since most if it depends on Project Pro.

Hi MaryB,

You are able to use Project 2002 on Project Server 2003, but some
functionality will be lost since 2002 does not incorporate them.
Hope this helps

Hi Mary,

How many Project Professional 2002 users do you have?
You might want to consider purchasing the PP 2003 upgrade since you meet
the eligibility

Brian, thanks for the post. We are a smaller department, and are not
currently utilizing the full capabilities of Project. What we do need is a
way for remote locations to pull up a project from the server and print it in
its entirety. We're primarily interested in utilizing the email notification
system, updating and status reporting, and viewing and printing tasks and
timelines. The 2002 Server does all but print out timelines (I understand
that it is not possible to print Gantt Charts). It would potentially be worth
the cost of a server update to have this ability.

I am assuming that, for these minimal activities, using Professional 2002
with 2003 Web Access should provide adequate functionality. Would you say
this is correct?

Again, thanks for all the responses I received. I am certain this venue
will become indispensable as we evolve our use of this system.
