Project Server Security Logon dialogue box hangs

I have this issue with Project Server 2003 on Windows XP SP2 and it started
recently. When I start up Project 2003 Professional and it automatically
tries to connect to the Project Server, the Project Server Security Logon
dialogue box hangs and I have to open task manager to close it. Does anybody
have any idea what causes this?

Are you running McAfee version 8? There is a known point of contention
between the antivirus software and Project 2003 connecting to a Project
Server.

Specifically, the script that runs in Project when establishing its
connection is caught and stopped by the antivirus software.

McAfee is aware of the problem, and lists two "fixes" on their web site.
One is to unregister a .dll (which would make you ever so popular with your
IT department!) and the other is to click the cancel button on the first box
and connect manually.

I see this as an issue McAfee is responsible for fixing, as their upgrade
broke Project.

Hello

Sorry it took so long for me to get back, but we are running McAfee version
7. The only thing we've noticed that is different is as we upgrade users to
Windows XP SP2, this seems to be happening where Project 2003 Professional
tries to connect to the Project Server and the Project Server Security Logon
dialogue box hangs and I have to open task manager to close it.

Upgrading to XP SP2 changes the security settings on the computer. You need
to check the firewall settings and correct them to resolve the problem.
