project server unable to process the request

A user has just configured Project Pro to connect to Project Server, the Test
Connection was succesful. It is also set up to automatically log into the
server at start.

Now when the user opens Project Pro, he gets prompted for his user id and
password twice, the receives the following message:

The project server was uable to process the request.
The request string is empty. Check the request and try again.

This is a remote user, so I'm not able to see the error myself.

Any help is appreciated!

Hi...

Need to know the connection of the remote user. A modem? or WAN or DSL
using VPN? other?

I never have any luck with remote users! Too many variables and it's
specific to each site. For example: In one large corporation, I had one user
VPN in, but the VPN access point was over a WAN link, so that puked (i.e.
didn't work). So, I found a VPN access in the same building as the servers
and the problem went away.

Generic answer to remote users which *cough* always works is to create a
Terminal Services Server in the server room. Please note, I am not saying
attach directly to the Project Server through Terminal Services, I mean a
separate machine used as a Terminal Services Server with MS Project loaded on
the Server which in turn connects to Project Server. This way all the chatty
interaction is between the Project Server and the Terminal Services Server.
Then, if a problem occurs, you can TS in to the machince and you can see what
remote users are experiencing (of course, you will be faster since you are
local)...

So, while you figure out why the user (or other users in similar situations)
have problems, this will at least get them working...

If this does not work, please repost your question!

Thanks,

Rick

It's a DSL connection. This user works from his home, I may just have to
have him bring his laptop in for me to check it out.

Thank you Rick!

Okay, sounds good!

Also, other things to check for any user having trouble (local or remote)...

(a) try clearing the IE cache

(b) add the MS Project Server site as a trusted site

(c) MDAC problem (you'll have to search microsoft.com for the appropriate
MDACs)

(d) Google/Yahoo/etc. toolbars and popup blockers - don't use them! (or at
least turn them off and see if the problem goes away and turn them back on
and see)

(e) Firewall software (again, turn off, try, turn on, try, tweak settings,
etc...)

(f) Or ActiveX is hosed. Delete them from IE (Tools, then Internet Options,
then Settings, then View Objects and delete the ActiveX compomnents.) Exit
out of MS Project and IE of course. Restart IE and connect to PWA to reload
the ActiveX.

Well, I am sure there is more but I cant think of any off the top of my
head...

Thanks!
