Project Server w/o Client

Does anyone have any information, guidance on using Project Server without
the Project Pro client? Specifically we are looking at methods to reduce
license costs and I am exploring the option of using Project Server
standalone with the possibility of adding a custom task builder interface.
Please let me know - any info would be appreciated.

Well without pro you can not publish or save plans in PWA.
You could use Activity Plans and never convert them.
May I ask what you will use PWA for without any pro plans being published?
Maybe WSS 3.0 with addtional free templates might be an option depending on
what your goals are for PWA.

Hi chicagohunter,
Generally Project Pro is required to publish Projects unless you use
Activities and Proposals. The only other way to publish projects is to
custom develop using the PSI ( Project Server Interface). Having said this,
you loos a lot of functionality if you dont use Project Pro. My
recommendation is "dont try to get around license cost since it will come
back and bite you later" :)
Hope this helps

Hi Chicago Hunter,

I read one of your posting as
"
So, one of our developers actually developed a workaround in less than a
week that intercepts the notification messages and only sends emails when the
tasks are new or have been changed. He compares a couple fields between the
draft and published database and if they are the same no notification is
sent. He also updated the format of the email so that it includes a hyperlink
which the out of the box notifications do not contain. It can be done if you
have a seasoned developer on staff and it can be done with only moderate
effort. "

If you don't mind, could you explain how you did it? If you have no problem
sharing the code, could you?

Thanks in advance
