Project Server

Hi,
We have recently implemented microsoft project server 2003 in our
oragnisation.
My projects team is facing big issuse in project server, ie whenever a
resource submit his timesheet (effort) in project web access approved by the
project manager, this will be updating the actuals in microsoft project plan
in the server, the problem is the plan effort is also changing to actual
effort.

For Example the resource A has planned effort of 4 hrs, but the resources
complete the task within 3 hrs and sent for manager approval. When the
manager approve the time sheet. The planned effort of 4 hrs is changed to 3
hrs.

Please hlep me on the above issuse

Thanks in advance

Regards,
Ramesh

In the future, please post your Project Server questions in the
microsoft.public.project.server newsgroup, as this newsgroup is closing
down. To answer your question, you are missing a fundamental principle of
how Microsoft Project works, which is "actuals always replace estimates."
If you schedule a task to take 4 hours of Work, and a resource submits 3
hours of Actual Work and sets Remaining Work to 0 hours (indicating the task
is complete), the system replaces the 4 hours of planned Work with the 3
hours of Actual Work and marks the task as 100% complete. This is the
default behavior of the software and you cannot change this behavior.

Now, here's what else you don't know. You preserve the original planned
Work for each task in your project by saving a project baseline before you
begin collecting actuals in the project. To save a baseline, click Tools -
Tracking - Save Baseline. You can compare the variance between baseline
values and current/actual values by displaying any task View, such as the
Gantt Chart, and then applying either the Work, Cost, and Variance tables.
For example, to apply the Work table, click View - Table - Work. Hope this
helps.
