Hi,

When I insert a project in my main project, the beginning date of the
project insert is the same of creation data of the main project. I want that
the project I insert begins in the current date (I've setted the option start
the new activities at the current day).

Thanks for any suggestions,

gio

tagiovanni,

Are you inserting a "project" from another file, or are you inserting
new tasks into a project file?

I think what *should* happen (and does happen as I just tested it on m
copy of Project 2007) is that the project start for that inserted
project will be the start date as defined inside the project that you
inserted. The container project should not reschedule the inserted
project. Look at how the start date of the inserted project is set.

gio,
There are two types of master projects, dynamic and static. Dynamic is
the default when you go to Insert/Project.

When creating a dynamic master, the subproject(s) do not actually become
part of the master. Consequently they, [subprojects], will maintain
their project start dates even though the start date of the master is
different.

However, when creating a static master, (unchecking the "link to
project" option in the lower right corner of the Insert Project window),
the subproject(s) are basically copied into the master. They lose their
identity as individual subprojects and consequently they take on the
project start date of the master.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

When you insert, do you have "Link to Project" on?
If you have, start s-date should eb the obne from the inserted project.
If you haven't, it will be the one from the master file.
Hope this helps,

Hi,

I've understand what you have said. I'm using static master, but I want that
the static project I insert, it's update to the current date, not updated
according with tha start date of the master.

Thanks for any suggestion,

John

gio,
When creating a static master be aware that the individually inserted
subprojects lose their identity. That is, any settings, (e.g. start
date, status date, view characteristics, filters, etc.), will be those
of the master. Furthermore, any tasks in the inserted subprojects that
are not constrained, either with a fixed date or via task links, will
move to the start date of the master.

In any project, all tasks must have a successor even if it is simply the
final milestone, and all tasks should have a predecessor, which may in
fact be a start milestone or the project start date. Tasks that have a
delayed start for whatever reason, (e.g. resources don't become
available until a certain date, etc.), should have a
Start--no-earlier-than constraint. If this philosophy is followed,
inserting a project into either a static or dynamic master will not
change task dates, assuming the Project Start Date is compatible for
those tasks that have no predecessor or constrained start date.

Hope this helps.
